Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications (SWIFT)

A non-profit co-operative society set up to facilitate the transfer of any messages between banks and other financial institutions. Established in Brussels in 1973, it now has over 8,300 users in 208 countries, exchanging millions of messages valued in trillions of dollars every business day.
