Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT)

A treaty between two countries that provides for mutual legal assistance, including the exchange of information in cases where criminal offenses have been committed.

MLATs between the US and Caribbean nations do not cover US tax evasion, which therefore means the Caribbean countries act as offshore tax havens.
